Sad Kitty

She's testing me.

For some unfortunate reason Drew's hair doesn't grow naturally falling down the sides of her head. It grows from the back tip of her scalp straight down over her forehead and eyes. If I don't want her to look like Cousin It, I have to clip it to the side.

It drives me CRAZY when her hair is in her eyes. She knows it drives me crazy. Which is why she has begun to take her clip out every time I am not looking. Then she hides it. Not as a game that she thinks is funny, but mischievously. All of a sudden here comes Cousin It walking around and going about her business. I ignore the fact that she is blinded by hair and constantly brushing it out of her face. I really try and ignore it for as long as I can.

Yesterday morning as I was putting the clip in I told her, "Drew, please keep your clip in your hair. Are you going to keep your clip in your hair?" I got the yes answer. She's watching Mickey Mouse and I start sewing in my craft room when I feel a presence watching me from the doorway. She has a stone serious expression and she waits until I look at her for her to pull the clip deliberately out of her hair and throw it at my feet. She turned and walked away.

She's testing me.

Today we were playing a game of mean kitty, nice kitty. It's a really fun one where Drew tells you to be a mean kitty and you meow really mean. Or she tells you to be a nice kitty and you meow really nice and soft.

In the middle of this enjoyment she asks to play with her stamps and make a really big mess in my craft room. After explaining my no, she put on one of those temper tantrums that are getting more and more common. This time I ignored it, turned my back to her, and kept working.

Eventually she quieted down and silence. Then I hear, "Sad kitty. Meeeeooooow. Meeeeeoooow. Meeeeooooow."

I may have a two-year-old teenager, but she still makes me laugh.

  1. I love the way you write! That is too funny. I can just see her doing that. She still is a stinkin cutie. I think for sure this is how Peyton is going to be. She does these types of things all the time already!

  2. Sometimes I think our children are cut from the same mold. I seriously wonder what I did as a child to deserve the punishment of a hormonal 2 year old. Girls! She is a doll though, so I think you should keep her. :)

  3. She is so smart! What a cute kitty story! The clip thing is too much though - makes me scared for Meg to be 2.
