My Kitchen

This is a view of the side wall of our kitchen, a picture I took before we bought the house. No need to show more of the kitchen, because this picture says it all. Not much has changed since we've moved in. The walls are still white. The cupboards are still lame. Countertops are still pink (who gets pink countertops?). Oh, except we had to buy a new fridge, since all the appliances in our home held a meeting and decided to all brake after we closed on the house and moved in. The fridge and our air conditioning unit are in cahoots. I don't even want to tell you how much air conditioning units cost. It will ruin your day.

Anyways. The fridge is now black to match the rest of the appliances. I need to remake my kitchen and I have a $0 budget at the moment. Here's what I'm thinking. Wouldn't those cabinets look much better painted white and with added handles/hardware? There needs to be some color on the wall. My problem really lies with the pink countertops. I can't replace them anytime real soon and so am stuck with pink. Any ideas?

These are some of my black and white inspiration kitchens:

  1. Love the kitchen inspiration pics. Sadly, I too have pink countertops, and I just pretend they're not there, and that seems to help...

  2. You and I share a very similar kitchen dream... and wouldn't you know it... we nearly have the same kitchen!

I finally got the courage and energy to paint my white walls... I posted about it earlier this year- they are a lovely shade of green now and it makes me so happy. Luckily my counter tops are white (although still ugly), but it's only a matter of time before I get the energy and money to paint my cabinets. I dream of how beautiful the kitchen will be:)

We should help one another paint two kitchens together!

  3. Ok, I LOVE that you posted about this because my kitchen cupboards are LAME too! I've been trying to convince myself these last couple months that I have it in me to paint them white as well. (Great minds think alike) So I can't wait to see what you come up with. As for the pink countertops?? I'm at a loss

  4. Yay for Zero dollar kitchen budgets!! I'm with you. I did read this blog once where this woman had spray painted her laminate countertop in her bathroom black and it actually totally worked! I'll try to find the link for you. It would at least be a temporary fix...

  7. Oh Chelise, I felt like I was reading my own life while reading your post :). We are for sure in the same boat! Our air conditioning went out like a week after we moved in too. K, but do you or the sellers purchase a home warranty? We didn't know this, but they should cover it for you. The air conditioning guy told us that the warranty people don't like to tell you that, but they should cover it. K, sorry that's alot of info. I just feel for you. And... we painted our cabinets in our kitchen white and it made a HUGE difference. I will try to take a pic and send you. We rented a sprayer from Lowes and used that. It was great (also used it to spray ceilings, trim, etc all the same day). Good luck with everything. We miss you. How's Jason's sched?

  8. My sister painted her kitchen cabinets white and it looked soooooo much better! And new hardware adds so much and costs so little! Sorry about the pink counter tops! Talk with Heather O. cuz I think they just put in the granite tile counter tops which are a much cheaper alternative to the granite slabs.

  9. You have nice inspirations, but the last one is what I think can best suits your kitchen. The color is much closer to what you have, and you only needed little changes that can fit your budget. Anyway it's been years, how's your kitchen now? -> Robbie @ TNTGranite.ca
